A closet filled with Couture and Crap..

Today needed some color.. Can it be Spring already? I need a vacation.

So my colleague and I had the same discussion today that we always have about how we hardly ever "mid-range" shop.. I know that sounds bitchy but it's true!  Our clothes are either in the $300 range or like
10 bucks!
So we figured out why and this is what we came up with: We're surrounded my million dollar goods all day long, which warps our puny little 20-something year old minds into thinking that we actually NEED this stuff.. BECAUSE WE DO! That is not up for discussion... just let us be.  Anyways.. now, when these things go on sale or what have you, we think "OH MY GOD I can actually kind of, sort of, if I don't eat for a week, afford this!!" and BOOM! $200-$300 gone. oops. But when it comes to shopping outside of our doors... "Oh my god! $60 for a SHIRT!?? Heavens to Betsy NO!"... Then off we go to F21 and Target and we are in heaven because everything is so cute and so god damn cheap! And that my friends, is how you end up with a wardrobe of Couture and Crap...

A Sunday in the life of a paperdoll...

I started my difficult day at 10:00am... Mr. MD's truck got towed, so after making the treacherous drive to Dorchester so he could be reunited with his baby girl, my best and I grabbed brunch, and started our day off right with a Bloody Mary.. mmm.  Then we did a little shopping. Life is so hard.  Before grabbing a coffee at American Provisions we took a little tour of a beautiful 3 floor, 8 bedroom, Victorian house on I Street, that I would love to live in.. but somehow even 3 closets in the master bedroom doesn't seem to be enough for my wardrobe? One day, I will have a walk-in closet the size of my current bedroom (150 sq ft?).  I think that's the number one aspiration I have right now.. again, life is so hard.

Breakfast at Tiffany's

We then ended our exhausting day with Breakfast at Tiffany's... Now onto The Oscars! I'm excited to see Ms. Anne Hathaway!!

A little Oscar snack before bed.. cherry tomatoes and mozzarella!

Contacts are in.. the light is on... baby steps.

About to suit up for the 20 degree weather here in Southie.  Grabbing coffee and cookies with one of my bests.  We have been frequenting American Provisions on Broadway and I Street (they are seriously the nicest people there).. the whole set up makes you feel like you're back in the burbs at some quaint little farmers market boutique. They have the most amazing all natural and organic food.. fresh olive oil.. cheeses.. fresh meats.. really delicious coffee.. just sadly no seating.  Maybe I'll ask the owner about that.  I would love to sit in their window with my large Costa Rican coffee and my crescent! Anyways.  I think we're are going to take a nice long walk to Sidewalk Cafe.. best ice coffee and sandwiches ever! I hope my face doesn't freeze off!

Date Night

Just came back from the most amazing dinner at Morton's on the water. No pictures.. just memories.  Fillet mignon, spinach and mushrooms, the most amazing mashed potatoes and a little too much riesling on a snowy February night. Heaven.

The skirt cost $20... and the necklace.. didn't.

So... I just can't wait for summer! It's going to be filled with maxi dresses and long skirts and statement necklaces and and bangles and... and.. and outdoor dining and drinking! sigh. I can't wait any longer.

So I love this skirt. This whole outfit screams perfection! like this: PERFECTIOOOON!
I love brown and black together.. they are both neutrals which allows me to throw on my favorite accent color.. red!

Now the necklace... is a very special piece. I just got it for Valentine's Day from the MD.  It's vintage from the turn of the century... and it's red... and it's mine.

All this outfit is missing isssss the Eric Javits wide brimmed black straw fedora... double sigh.
I would wear this for day drinks on Newbury... and then we would go to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and then out to dinner where we would eat and drink sangria outside.. with twinkle lights everywhere. Triple sigh.  See what I mean when I say I make up scenarios with each piece of clothing! That's why I can't stop expanding my wardrobe. Each article of clothing I encounter has a dreamlike scenario attached to it just waiting to come to life! Ok, I think I need to calm down and go to bed.

Questions and comments welcomed with OPEN ARMS!

Hey guys! First of all I just want to thank everyone who has taken even the quickest, most nonchalant look at this blog.  It really makes me so happy to see my followers and pageview numbers grow... I know that sounds so lame, but I don't care!  It makes me feel like what I'm writing about is
somewhat relevant.

Also, I wanted to back track a little bit.  In my "about me" I said that I hate when people ask me about fashion because they make it sound so mindless.. I actually thought about that after I read it (and a friend also brought it up to me today) and I think I need to rephrase that statement.  What I meant was:
I strongly dislike when a person, who clearly doesn't care to know much about me, decides to, for small talk, attempt to have a conversation about "fashion".  It bothers me because the way that they bring it up makes it sound like a mindless topic, and they usually aren't genuinely interested in the answer... and most importantly they make it seem like that's all I am capable of comprehending.  I am not what I do for a living.  I am who I am and I have many different interests and hobbies.  My roommate just made another good point.. I would rather someone ask me about my personal style and why I choose to wear what I wear and how it fits my personality, rather than the flat question of what is trendy now (and then she muttered "god I'm so smart" and then flipped her hair).  "Trendy" doesn't work for everyone.  People should just concentrate on what works for them and their personality! Diversity.  It's a beautiful thing.

Ok.. I'll get off my soap box now and get to the main point of this entry..... If you have any thoughtful fashion questions about what looks are appropriate for you, please don't be afraid to ask me!  If you want  to talk about an outfit you were personally proud I would absolutely LOVE to hear about it. Love! Love! Love! Also if you guys have any comments or questions about what I blog about I would love to read them! But just remember... I'm a Cancer and I'm a sensitive bitch.

My mother loves me...

These little guys were a Valentine's gift from my mom.. she's the sweetest.
Every Monday night I stay at her house and we have a girls night. On Valentine's Day she surprised me with 3 of the thin bangles and then last night she gave me 3 more! I was so excited!  Sorry...I get gitty like a 5 year old girl when I get presents... but I'm not the only one, my brother does too.

I usually don't do bangles, because they don't sit right on my dainty wrists, but these look so gorgeous.. they make me smile.

The thin bangles are the Stella & Dot "Devi" and "Mira" gold plated bangles.  The two wide detailed ones are vintage from Greece.. from my Yia Yia (I love mixing old world pieces with new pieces).  She'd be so happy that I wear her stuff.
They really look amazing together..

Ladies and Gentlemen... the newest addition to my closet!

I have a feeling this little guy will be playing a big role in a lot of upcoming looks.
This is another look I am fond of.. mostly monochromatic.. or at least all of the same tones.. and then I throw on my ruby red slips!

..and with a little hint of spring, dinner is served!

So the dinner and the table spread came out just wonderful. I thought that it was a little girly but my boyfriend seemed to love it!  I'm so sick of this cold weather so I wanted to pretend it was spring.. hence the garden set up.

The dinner turned out amazing! Thank you Trader Joe's Cook Book! It was a liiiiiittle heavy on the salt.. not that it tasted too salty, but I've already downed about three full glasses of water (not counting the one I had during dinner).  But if you need a quick really tasty meal, the Brown Butter Cod literally took 4 minutes to cook, plus another minute to throw together the sauce.. so 5 minutes all together. So good. Ok I'm full and tired and ready to pass out.
Night <3

My menswear Missoni sweater and ASH high tops seemed to work for the hipsters at TJ's

Hat and coat and I was out the door..

So.. who knew the hardest part of food shopping would be finding parking and maneuvering through the aisles without taking out an old woman or toddler? Anyways... two market trips later I could start in.....
So I put on a mix of Zooey Deschanel and Astrud Gilberto, lit some candles, cleaned the kitchen and made up my floral arrangement! I absolutely love setting the mood when I cook... there's nothing worse than cooking in a stressful chaotic environment (I think thats my interior design inner child showing through). So far the soup is done and now I just wait till my honey comes home so I can start in on the Brown Butter Cod! I SWEAR IM NOT REALLY THIS DOMESTIC AND OLD FASHIONED!!!

Floral makes me so happy... I imagined myself cooking in my pretty apron and listening to nice music so I really wanted a feminine color pallet. I think they are Ranunculus and the taller ones look like Snap Dragons.. so pretty.

Good... afternoon? Damn. I hate when I want to be productive and wake up after 10.  So it's a NON suicidal Sunday, considering I stayed in last night.. and it's time to be productive! I haven't gone food shopping in over a month (clothing/rent/NY trips over food mind-set) so off to Trader Joe's I go! I plan on making Brown Butter Cod with Potato and Kale Soup! We'll see how this goes.. and my faaavorite thing about Trader Joe's is their floral selection! So! I should be getting back to you with a photo of a lovely table spread later on!

Now onto the most important part of this journey.... picking out my food shopping outfit.

The Life of a Paperdoll

So this is my first entry... and I figure I should introduce myself? My name is Taryn and I'm a quarter of a century old.  I think I'll set this "about me" section up like they did in Style Diaries...

{20 things about myself}

I am Greek and Albanian - My mother named me after Nicollette Sheridan in the soap opera Paperdolls - I am by definition a Cancer - I always keep a piece of red on me for protection.. family superstition - I am extremely sentimental and love to wear all of my meaningful treasures at once, which is where I get my boho/gypsy look from - I whole heartedly believe in Karma and "The Golden Rule" - I don't like chocolate, condiments or felt - I believe that life is about people and your relationships with them - My passion is painting and my career is styling - I create scenarios through clothing.. that's usually how I end up buying most of my clothes - I hate when people ask me about fashion because they make it sound so mindless.. I would rather them ask me about my thought process behind my style - I am a terrible speller - I have a dark side...... but I also have this really cliche girly side filled with sororities, cheerleading, and fashion - I don't think tarot is something you "believe" in.. it is what it is and people fear it for some reason - I love "Zen" green tea - Yoga centers me and put things into perspective.. but I'm not a yogi - I cry a lot when I'm by myself, mostly because my brain wonders too much when I'm alone - A lot of people see me as self absorbed or vain, but I'm not.. I'm just really in tune with myself and what makes me happy - I love dressing like a boy with a hint of sexy - I love mens fashion more than womens

so hopefully at some point SOMEONE will read this.  this isn't a fashion blog... but fashion will be a big part of it. enjoy.
