Elegant Enigmas

At the end of the week one of my good friends from college is coming to visit me.
I'm starting to fill up our itinerary for the weekend and there seems to be a lot of time at the Museum so far.

Sorry Kenz.
What I am truly excited about is seeing the Edward Gorey exhibit that one of my besties told me about!

Sorry Justine.
"Elegant Enigmas: The Art of Edward Gorey"

Edward Gorey was, ironically enough, a children's book author and illustrator from 1953 - 2000.
His work is chilling yet really friggin funny.. if you like that sort of thing.

When I have kids one day I'll be sure to scare the crap out of them with his stories.

"Ya? You want a cookie before dinner? I know a girl in a story book who did that and choked AND DIED"
BAM! Children who behave.

Done aaaand done!

The exhibit is at The Boston Athenaeum.. which is a perfect location to showcase his work.

If I had a say in his alphabet book I would have made "T":

"T is for Taryn who was crushed by her closet."

... and yes I just turned to my co-worker and asked "How would I die... ya know.. if I were part of his alphabet book."
.. and that's what we came up with... I don't hate it.
.. as you can tell Tim Burton was heavily inspired by him.. which makes sense.

.. and apparently I was somehow, subconsciously, inspired by him too!

A little less "Gorey" and a little more girly.
Similar aesthetic... which would be girls who look sickly.

The End.
