Single Girl Habits

So it's a Friday night and I decided to cook myself some dinner
and stay in.  Today was crazy.. running around to all three of my New York stores
plus all of the department stores that carry us to refresh the floors.. all in 6" platforms.
MY DOOOGS ARRRE BARKIN!

So I watched an episode of Sex and the City while cooking some breaded chicken
and lemon grass dumplings.... naturally those go together... and it was the episode
where the girls go around the table and tell each other  their "secret single girl habits."
Carrie eats the saltines in the kitchen reading magazines, Miranda lotions her hands
in those gloves watching infomercials, Charlotte studies her pores.... Samantha's a slut.

Now.. for the first time in years, my single girl habits have resurfaced.
One of which is... because I'm a true Cancerian.. reflecting on my past.
I know that sounds really "deep" and a little too general, but what I mean is I use
to love getting in my bed after a nice shower and reading through my old diaries.

I've kept a diary since I think the 4th grade?
My last diary ended something like 2 years ago...
and now I have my blog to keep track of my life.  So here I am..
it's a Friday night.. just me and Buddy Bear.. reading through my old blog posts.
Some of them make me sad and nostalgic for my old life in Southie.
Some make me happy that my life has grown and changed so much.
But what was kind of cool was that the {20 things about me} from my very first post
over a year ago pretty much all remain the same.  Except for the chocolate part.
I've grown to like chocolate a little more than I use to.

I'm going to continue on reading now.. then I'll go to bed so that I can wake up early,
go get a Swedish massage, get my hair done, meet the girls out to celebrate the engagement of one of my sorority sisters and then end the night getting drunk at a bar watching the Syracuse game.
I'm looking forward to it.

Night.

Spring sprang onto Fancy Desk.

Fancy Desk

My coworker and I merged desks in a recent office renovation,
so now we have one laaarge desk with one laaarge window over looking Midtown.
It's almost like when Dwight creates "mega desk" in one of The Office episodes...
Then.. because we are both materialistic and vain we decided that our mega desk
should be the prettiest desk in the office... thus Fancy Desk was birthed.
It's almost like "The Finer Things Club" in another Office episode.
Mega Fancy Desk Club.
Jealous.

We make Fancy Desk fancy with colorful treats and floral and everyone is jealous.
Every week we will have a new floral element and season appropriate treats!
Woo!

LWD

This is the Little White Dress that haunts my dreams.
I am absolutely obsessed with this little kerchief that's adorning my friend lil k.
(To see more of her fantastic wardrobe visit itsnevertoo.blogspot.com)

This piece is the perfect little boho "let's go sit outside an grab drinks downtown" dress.

I've had LWDs come in and out of my life in the past..
but nothing that has really rocked my world.
This summer all I want is to be really tan and... maybe to go blonde again..
and to own a white dress that changes my life.

Ya I know.. dramatic.
But lately I feel pale, dowdy and washed up.
I need a new look asap.

I've been doing yoga, drinking more water and now all I need is a makeover.
It's coming soon... I can feel it.

In the mean time I've been checking out these dresses by Free People.

Seeing Poppy

A. Four Corner Shirtdress - anthropologie.com
B. Nail Lacquer in Poppy
C. Grandma Readers - urbanoutfitters.com
D. Bloomsbury Pillow - Anthropologie
E. Frankie Shirt by Splendid - anthropologie.com
F. Chanel
G. Jenni Flatform by Leifsdottir - anthropologie.com

The only color I love more than the color red.. is the color poppy.
Poppy is such a bright fun color and it's perfect for spring!
I've been sporting my Nail Lacquer all week.

Last weekend when I was home, my mom and I went shopping.
We hit up our usual spots ie J.Crew, Neimans and Anthropologie.
I fell in love with every poppy shirt and dress in Anthro.

I can picture myself throwing on that cotton eyelet dress in the summer
with some cute flatforms or sandals.. grabbing a drink with friends after work.
Can't wait!

I have to say, the actual flowers are my favorite.
With their dark centers... so beautiful!

Maybe that will be next weeks desk floral arrangement...
if they even exist right now.  Here's hoping!

Cut..Paste..Wear: Floral Jeans

Sometimes I wish I was an actual doll
so I could just simply cut these bad boys out
and place them in my wardrobe!

Garden Party Floral Skinny Jeans
by 7 For All Mankind

Tried them on this weekend.
Need them more than anything right now.

Key words: right now.

If you know me well enough, you know that
"what I need" changes every day.
I blame it on my ADD.

Waiting for a friend..

Right now I'm waiting for my great friend/old coworker/fellow blogger
Coleen Broderick to come pick me so we can hang out and go to the mall.

Yes.. I am back in high school with no car and big plans to hang at the mall.

But seriously.. we are going to grab a nice lunch in Walpole,
catch up on our larger than life changes ie wedding planning and NYC
and then she will bring me to Neimans to see some old friends...
and maybe pick up some cute flats for work.

***Also on Monday I will have a new Spring/Summer look for LPD***
I'm so excited I could do jazz hands.

My Little Pony

Dark Pink Pony Hair by Aerosoles

I literally stalked a woman this morning on my way to the subway
to ask her where she got her pony hair hot pink shoes.

I need more flats in my wardrobe.
My job requires manual labor.
And even though I'm drilling/lifting/schlepping I am still in the world
of fashion so I need to look adorable and chic at the same time.. life is so hard.
But anyways, I think these are perfect!

They're even brighter in person.

Buying them... right now.

A weird but beautiful day in this weird but beautiful city.

So today was weird.
It was such a beautiful day in New York.
Absolutely beautiful.  I literally kept getting butterflies.
Like it all finally made sense why I am here.
I think it really hit me when I was sitting with my coworkers
on the rooftop deck, sipping my ice coffee.
I couldn't stop feeling so happy to be where I was at that very moment.
At a job, in a career that I love, with the most amazing people,
on the most gorgeous day in this beautiful city, surround by
jaw dropping architecture.  There's really no way to describe it.
I feel so lucky.

Anyways... I left my office to go purchase some floral
for one of my downtown store's windows.
After stumbling out of Whole Foods with three bags full
of little potted flowers I flagged down an SUV cab.
Woo! Yaa! Got one! So in my frantic hurry to get my bags
in this guy's trunk and into the backseat I slammed the trunk down...
and onto my head.  Annoyed at my clumsiness I climbed into
the cab and directed the driver where to go.  I put my hand up to my
head to feel if there was a bump and my head was wet.
When I pulled my hand away it was covered in blood.
Uuuuhh gross?

I get to my store in the West Village and the manager
looks at me and says.. "ok.. I don't want to freak you out...
but you need to go to the hospital. Taryn? Go to the hospital.
Like seriously... just to be safe. Go to the hospital.. now."

Luckily my coworkers are awesome and
helped me find a walk in clinic to go to, to get checked out.
Everyone was great. Everything was fine.. NO STITCHES!!! Yaaaayyy!
Got a tetanus shot... so NO INFECTIONS!! Yaaayyy!
Bad news? I'm still an idiot.. Booooo!

But everyone was so sweet and helpful and caring
throughout the hour that I was convinced I would pass out,
by myself and bleed out alone and die.

But seriously,
the whole annoying experience left me feeling even more at home in this city.
It's nice to know you're surrounded by good people.
It gives ya the fuzzy wuzzies!

Now I'm home.. I washed the blood out of my hair...
ate some friggin fantastic Chinese food, and now I'm going to go pack
because I leave for Boston tomorrow at 2pm.

Moral of the story?
Your day could always be worse...
you could bleed out in the backseat of a cab...
and die.

Night!

Such a magical day..

Between eating the most amazing brunch at ABC Kitchen,
shopping in Soho and hanging out in a garden in Nolita,
Erica and I shared quite an amazing day together in the city.

Chutes and Ladders

image via fab.com
Loving this ladder necklace by
Vera Balyura.
So simple yet it would make
an entire ensemble.
It really encompasses what I do for a living.
Fashion mixed with design mixed with manual labor.
Sooo... per usual.
I think someone should buy it for me.
